Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight has heard of MyFitnessPal, and this is because it is the best diet tracker available for free. The app allows you to track your food intake as well as your weight loss progress.


When you join, you enter your goal weight, date of birth, current weight, gender, height, and rough activity level and MyFitnessPal calculates the amount of calories you need as well as how much fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates and protein you need daily. It also plots helpful graphs showing your weekly calorie intake and your current progress.

After all, who doesn’t love a good graph? This app raises awareness for how much food you actually need. It’s extremely easy to record foods as there are over 2,000,000 food items on the database and you can add more in the unlikely event of your chosen meal not being on there.


As a nutrition app, MyFitnessPal is first class. It teaches you how much nutrition you actually need and, makes you think twice before devouring that bag of chips (or slice of cake)!

If it’s weight you’re trying to lose, the calorie tracker will be fabulous for you.  You can change the amount of calories you wish to eat each day to suit your diet. By logging all of the food you have eaten, you’ll be able to keep a track of the amount of calories which you have consumed, which helps to tell you when to stop.


When it comes to logging exercise, MyFitnessPal scores again. There are loads of different exercises to choose from, from running, to skipping. All you have to do is log the amount of time you spent doing the activity or, if you used gym equipment, you can log the amount of calories the gym equipment told you that you’d burnt.

Another bonus of the app is that, if you lose your phone, you can still access your profile online. That way, the fact that you have no phone is definitely not an excuse.

The app is free and easy to use. Whether you’re using it to lose weight, maintain your weight or just to try and stay healthy, we highly recommend using MyFitnessPal as a weight loss tool. It’s easy to use and, as long as you use it correctly, there’s absolutely no reason why it shouldn’t work for you.
